Implant Placement and Restoration

A dental implant is a “small screw” made of titanium metal, which is placed into the bone of the jaws. It is well tolerated by the body and bonds with the bone. Dental implants have the advantage of replacing missing teeth, whilst looking very natural. Implants can be used to replace a single tooth or multiple teeth. They can be used to support a bridge and also help to stabilise dentures that are loose.

Dental implants are designed to provide a foundation for replacement teeth which look, feel, and function like natural teeth. The person who has lost teeth regains the ability to eat and smile confidently, knowing that teeth appear natural and that facial contours will be preserved.

The placement of an implant requires good planning and 3 or more stages to get successful results. The implant is placed in a minor surgical procedure done in the dental chair. The second stage is done a few months later to expose the ‘bonded’ implant and place an abutment which is a stable connector and anchor for the tooth crown.The next stage requires impressions and delivery of a natural aesthetic tooth crown.
